Amir Mahyar Tafreshipour is a leading Iranian contemporary composer,working in both Tehran and London.
He specializes in contemporary music, “Music that reaches across time and across a continent,but music which is also unique to its fascinating creative personality”Amir is interested in highlighting,and promoting contemporary music written by Iranian composers and is active in setting up musical cultural exchanges across the globe.
Major ensembles and Orchestras to have performed,commissioned,&recorded Amir’s work are, The BBC Symphony Orchestra for his harp concerto’A Persian Reflection’under the baton of Pascal Rophe English Chamber Orchestra,The Anadulu Symphony Orchestra,Crash Ensemble,&The Fidelio Trio.
Tafreshipours Iatest output includes a recording of his harp Concerto “A Persian Reflection”with The English Chamber Orchestra,Conducted by the Prestigious Iranian Conductor,Alexander Rahbari,and featuring the Italian Harpist Gabriella Dal’Ollio.
‘The Doll behind the Curtain’ Amir’s Opera,based on a work by the famous Persian Writer Hedayat,received its premiere at the ‘Tete a tete Opera Festival’ in King’s Place,2015 in London.
The Opera is the only Iranian Contemporary Opera written with an English language Libretto,and was featured and broadcast by the BBC World Service and broadcast in Iran in 2016.
Amir’s music has also been featured on BBC Radio3,as part of a special Programme featuring music from Persia,on Late Junction with works from his C.D “pendar” and on Danish Radio station P2.
Forthcoming projects in London and Ireland,include a recording of the Opera “The Doll behind the Curtain” and recordings of his latest chamber works with the Crash ensemble and members of the Fidelio Trio.
His body of recordings for solo and chamber ensembles are represented by the Hermes Record Label and includes : C.D “Pendar”,and “Along The Silk Road”with Motema Music.
Commissions for Amir’s chamber works have been requested and performed by Southwark wind Ensemble, Dartington summer festival, Gahrn Ensemble,Ani string Quartet,University of victoria clarinet Ensemble,in New York,Aldeburgh Music Festiva,& Saint Petersburg New Music Festival.
Soloist to have performed his works include renowned specialists of Contemporary music , Oboist Christopher Redgate , Flautist Nancy Ruffer ,&Pianist Mary Dullea.
